
Fred Stuart
A veteran of over forty years in the theatre, Fred Stuart has worked as an actor, director, writer, and more. Stuart played hundreds of performances as Tom Jones in the 1985 edition of the San Francisco pop-culture satire phenomenon, “Beach Blanket Babylon’s Makin’ Whoopee.” He was a singer for the Neo-Swing band Blue Plate Special, and has appeared on stages from coast to coast in plays and musicals.
In the 90s, Stuart joined theatre licensing house Music Theatre International (MTI) in New York as the original Project Manager for the Broadway Junior series. In 2001, Stuart founded The Haymarket Theatre in Lincoln, NE, serving as Executive & Artistic Director until 2007. Since 2007, he has served as Chief Creative Officer for Steve Spiegel’s Theatrical Rights Worldwide (TRW), a major Broadway musical and play licensor. In addition to leading TRW’s global advertising from 2007 through 2020, he helmed the development of Monty Python’s stage adaptation, MONTY PYTHON’S EDUKATIONAL SHOW, and designed the Young@Part® junior show series materials.
NYC theatre performances include Off Broadway in A CHRISTMAS CAROL at The 13th Street Rep, and at The Clurman in York Shakespeare’s RICHARD THE II and MACBETH in rep, TITUS ANDRONICUS and ROMEO AND JULIET for Richard Mazda’s Secret Theatre in Queens. Stuart appeared in TRUE WEST for The Blue Room Theatre in Chico, California. He taught a Musical Theatre performance workshop at California State University, Chico, from 2018 to 2021 through a TRW partnership alliance. Stuart has directed scores of shows over the years from coast to coast, including premiere musicals each summer at French Woods Performing Arts camp in Hancock, NY, from 2008 through 2025.
In 2025, Stuart curated the songlist and wrote the book to NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE: The 70s Musical, for TRW Production, which premiered at The Mac-Haydn Theatre in Chatham, NY, in September and is now available for licensing around the globe from TRW.
He lives in California with his wife and son. Fred is a graduate of Cal Poly Humboldt with a B.A. in Leadership Studies. He also earned a degree in Record Production from the College for Recording Arts in San Francisco.
